Jachthaven Terneuzen, formerly the Oude Veerhaven, is located on the Zeeland coast. A great starting point for recreational boaters who want to explore the Westerschelde and surroundings. After the former Ferry Port was taken over from Rijkswaterstaat five years ago, it was decided to completely renew both the commercial part and the part where the marina was located. Old braking systems have been removed and a new work scaffold combination with a public scaffold has been built.
“We have redesigned and implemented the entire electrical infrastructure, water supply, lighting and WiFi,” says Waldo Worms, project manager of the assignment. “Our goal was to make Jachthaven Terneuzen ready for the future, with a focus on ease of use and efficiency, in line with the progressive and modern look that the marina strives for.“
The renovation project at Jachthaven Terneuzen spanned a period of two years, with two implementation phases that took place in 2022 and 2023/2024. “This phased approach enabled us to work carefully while minimizing the impact on daily activities in the port.“, explains Waldo.
”This was all under the highly expert guidance of Rian Durieux,“says Paul. ”He had also been involved in the construction of the old marina and therefore still knew exactly what about all the existing connections to the shore..”
The showpiece of the renovation is undoubtedly the implementation of the AanUit.net payment system. This system, which already has more than 100,000 users, is now fully integrated into the marina. “The fixed beams are now all used to AanUit.net and are satisfied that they can control the electricity and water with the app,” says harbourmaster Paul Nonnenman. “At first, passers-by had a bit of trouble installing another app, but with a little help from the harbourmasters, they usually work.“
A smart detail: the box numbers in the port now also serve as AanUit.net numbers. “This provides extra clarity for users,” Waldo adds. “We see that this approach is now also being used in other projects, such as a motorhome park in Emmen.”
The technical upgrades at Jachthaven Terneuzen go beyond just AanUit.net. “When choosing the Atlantic columns, we deliberately opted for a height of 1500 mm instead of the standard 1200 mm,” Waldo explains. “These columns are not only higher, but also more efficient - one column can operate up to 12 OnUit.net electrical connections. We have also equipped them with LED canopy lights, which ensures optimal visibility in the dark and is energy efficient. By smartly connecting the new electrical installation to the old port's existing electricity supply, we have also been able to achieve significant cost savings.“
“We had to connect everything to the existing power supplies“says Waldo. “In addition, we have installed a wastewater pump that is also operated via AanUit.net. This pump even has two additional electrical connections, which further increases flexibility for users.“
Although the current project has been completed, there are already plans for the future. “There are ideas to feed the marina and the adjacent jetties from a new transformer on the dyke.,” reveals Waldo. “This would further improve the capacity and reliability of the power supply.”
The project at Jachthaven Terneuzen fits perfectly into Seijsener's broader strategy to modernize and make marinas more sustainable. “We see that more and more ports are opting for integrated solutions such as AanUit.net,” says Waldo. “It not only improves the user experience, but also makes port management more efficient.“
At Seijsener, we are proud of what we have achieved at Marina Terneuzen. The project shows that with our expertise and innovative solutions, we can make even the most challenging port renovations a success. “It was a really fun project to work on,” Waldo concludes. “From designing the technology to supervising the implementation - we have really created something beautiful on the coast of Zeeland.“
